I spent a lot more time awake than I wanted to yesterday and last night. This was really irritating while it was happening (and I’m apparently unable to fall asleep when it’s light out so I’m going between crabby and loopy) but I did manage to get in some good productive time and learn a few new things so it wasn’t a total loss.
I like giving little free things to customers. Every so often I’ll make a new batch of freebies and it’s getting to be that time again. I’ve done stickers, pin-back buttons, little pillows with faces on them, wallets, etc. I still have some of most of those items but I get bored, lol.
This time I bought 50 double pronged alligator clips and am learning how to make pretty bows to put on them.
I’m hoping to get a lot done over the weekend, especially listing items that are done and photographed and just need me to be coherent enough to put together a description. 🙂
I’m going to make dog clothes.
Don’t get me wrong, Einstein is a good little guy and likes to play dress-up with his moms, but I’m going to be making dog clothes.
His moms are my friends that are going to model the new things I’m working on. Since I’m going to be using a couple of tropical prints I thought maybe a sweet little doggy in a Hawaiian shirt would complete the look.
So Einstein is coming over for our photo shoot and his pay will be getting to keep the sample garments, ha! I’ve got a shirt of his to get the measurements from and I’m looking at the patterns online to see what I need to be doing. But it’s always challenging to try things I’ve really never done before so I’m a little anxious about how this will all work out.
Don’t get me wrong, I think this is actually quite a lovely painting. I just find the description and inspiration to be new-agey and insane.
And the price is seriously crazy. Maybe the painting is better in person. Maybe I’m just cheap.
But $795 for this just boggles my mind.
So that I don’t have to take all my product photos in my workroom, I bought a really cute little patio set.
Considering that I bought it at World Market I got a seriously good deal on it.
I figure that there’s nothing wrong with a tea party themed Lolita shoot, right? So not only do I have really pretty blue chairs out back, I can rationalize the purchase as a business decision! I suppose that it really is one, but I’m so happy that it doesn’t feel like one.
Because I know that I’m the only one who looks at the “What’s Next” page, I can also announce that I finally found the hair clips I really like and ordered them from one of the smaller suppliers on Etsy. I also went to Michael’s today and bought a ridiculous amount of ribbon. The twins are going to have plenty to choose from in when they decide what they want as payment for their modeling services.
I kind of love candy holidays.
Maybe that’s why I got so many fabrics in jellybean colors?
These are my incentives to finish all the half-done projects sitting in my work-room. Got to get all the other ones done before I can start in on turning these into tops and dresses and bathing suit cover-ups.
Hopefully I’ll be able to keep myself working instead of screwing around.
My tax refund was deposited into my bank account yesterday, so I have been spending it hand over fist. On such frivolities as shipping supplies, new glasses (woot they should be ready in a week and I’ll be able to see again!) and cute red $9 flats I can wear to work.
Like I said last week, I need to figure out what I should be investing in business-wise and actually invest in it. I was at Joann’s this afternoon buying fabric and trying to look around at what I need and what I don’t need. That can be really tough. I didn’t really find anything that struck me as good equipment or organizational stuff or whatever. I got fabric. I got zippers. I got elastic. I got out.
I’ll probably go to Hobby Lobby on Monday or Tuesday and look at their decorative stuff that I might be able to use for photoshoots or display purposes. Maybe Goodwill and Salvation Army, too.
